Does anyone have any information on an older Empire telescope...model # 653. 300 power.?
I found this telescope at a thrift store still in the original box. It has a red wood tripod and is in excellent condition. The problem is that I can't find any info on it anywhere! The box says "Empire Telescope," "UNIVERSE model no. 653" I would like to know when it was manufactured and maybe some specs.
Seems you may have found a very fun little scope there - (see source.)
If you're already experienced enough to be confident about cleaning the lenses, there shouldn't be too much difficulty. If you're not quite that confident/experienced, check with a local astronomy group, there is almost always someone that has worked with refractors long enough to be confident about helping you do any clean-up that might be needed.
