Why the rotation of glass plate in Microwave oven changes when we press start button?
This was something which i didn't notice for a long time but one day i was about to warm a cup of milk in microwave oven. I set timer to 30 sec but after 20 sec i stopped it and again pressed start button. i noticed that plate which was rotating clockwise , started rotating anti clockwise. I repeated this activity and found the same pattern . Can any one tell me the reason behind this. Later i also verified with microwave ovens of different makes.
The turntable in a microwave oven is driven by an alternating current motor which may start in either direction at random and continues to travel in that direction until stopping.
The reason for using a turntable in a microwave oven is that the microwave energy is not evenly distributed across the oven. The turntable allows the food to receive an equal amount of energy by turning across the uneven microwave field. The microwave energy is turned to heat within the food.
It actually does not matter in which direction the turntable rotates in order to evenly cook the food.
