How do you take the head off a Velbon S-4000 Tripod?
I would like to know how to take the head off of an older model 1983-85. I want to put a markins ball head on it.
I was thinking that not all tripods had removable heads, especially brands such as Velbon. Being an older model such as that I could find no clear photos or information, but I have a couple of lower cost Velbons around here and the head is not the typical type that is designed to be removed.
However, I will say how heads are removed from tripods that DO have removable heads. Look at yours carefully and it may indeed be removable. All heads will screw off the tripod center column mounting flange in a counterclockwise direction. But first there will be lock screws under the flange that must be loosened. There are usually 3 screws. Sometimes a normal flat blade screwdriver will be required, others will need a correctly sized allen wrench to fit and loosen the screws. When the screws are loose, the head can then be screwed off the flange stud.
So, if you do not see this type of arrangement at the bottom of the flange on your head, then I am going to say it is not designed to be removed.
Velbon made / makes many lower end consumer tripods that are not designed for interchangeable heads as the typical consumer has no understanding or need of different head styles.
