Constitution: a living document or original intent?
Living document...meaning it's subject to change as society changes, that it's flexible.
Original Intent... the words and what the found fathers (or others) meant the words to do/mean is strictly they do.
What do you think?
That's a hard one. I lean more towards something in the middle (if that's possible). Obviously amendments (such as the bill of rights) must be made. However, I am against TAKING away any rights the Constitution has already given. For example: Some argue that the constitutional right to bear arms and form militia are dangerous to society and thus this right is no longer needed. I say that's a VERY slippery slope and if you remove ONE right from the constitution (bill of rights), who knows what the next right will be?
The founding father's created a constitution that protected the common man/woman as well as allowed us to speak out/act out against said government. A militia isn't just for protection against a foreign army. It is also a right to protect ourselves from our own government. Thankfully, the United States has been founded on the belief to never completely trust our government and to always question it. I agree with this idea--and anything that tries to take away my rights to speak out, protest, or bear arms to protect my rights scares the crap out of me.
