About size of the pipe, flange and valve standard?

i have several question
1. There is mentioned the size about pipe,valve,flange and flexible joint which have size DN500. what does the DN500 mean? is it the outside?or inside diameter of the items?
2. what does Slip On DN500 flange mean? is it a type of a flange that the pipe enter the flange and then it welded? if that true, so the hole of the flange should be a little bit larger than the pipe?, so slip On flange DN500 mean the hole is 500mm?
DN stands for "diameter nominal" and utilizes a metric suffix (in millimeters) to indicate a nominal size that is actually based on inches. With this in mind, your questions can be answered as follows:
1. The DN designator, although based on the inside diameter in equivalent inches, is only a nominal designator, meaning DN500 is not exactly 500mm. They are approximate IDs only. DN500 is actually 508mm OD.
2. The term "slip-on" refers to a fitting that slips over the pipe or stub and is then welded. Other joints include socket weld (a tapered socket), butt weld, and threaded (usually only on small pipe sizes). Many pipe materials are also offered in different weights, wall thicknesses, or schedules, but this typically affects the ID only, not the OD. (Be careful! Some DN sizes actually have different ODs.) Standard DN500 steel pipe has an OD of 20" or 508mm, so the slip-on flange will be slightly larger.
