How do you break a magnetic transformer?
I had this trasnformer that was wrapped in magnetic plates, and well I connected a bolt to the bottom of it and it stopped working, I dont understand what could have happened. Can anybody explain this to me, how is this type of transformed different from a regular one, mechanicaly, and why did it stop working. Thanks.
Here's my guess about what you're asking about. A transformer uses electromagnetic induction to transform alternating current electricity to a different voltage, and to provide isolation. In sensitive electronic equipment, they are sometimes surrounded by a magnetic shield (a Faraday shield) to reduce stray electromagnetic fields, and thus their interference with instrument operation. Bolting a transformer using the built-in mounting stubs should not harm the transformer. But if you just drill a hole in it for a bold, you can expect damage.
