How do u transfer/convert an Adobe .psp file to a Corel .psp file? I own a Corel Paint Shop Pro X2.?
Ok, so here's the problem. A friend of mine sent me some important files which are save as .psp but at the time I didn't know it was an Adobe Photoshop .psp file instead of a Corel .psp file. I only own a Corel .psp file which can't open Adobe files. Is there a way to transfer or convert an Adobe .psp file to a Corel .psp file? I don't know how to work with Adobe photoshop so I won't be able to use those files if I can open them in Corel. Oh and the version of corel I'm using is Corel Paint Shop Pro X2....... Help, anyone?
Oh and the files are layered -.-
Are the Photoshop .psp files actually .psd files? .psp is not Photoshop's native format, nor is it a format that Photoshop can open or save out of the box without a third party plugin.
According to the Corel Knowledgebase, http://corel.custhelp.com (Select Paint Shop Pro and search "file format"), Paint Shop Pro should be able to open and write Photoshop PSD files.
I don't use Paint Shop Pro, so I am speculating here based on software use in general: Many software programs default to their native format when you open or save a file. In the Open dialog, see if you can change the file type from a drop down menu and choose whatever is there for Photoshop. That may allow you to select and open the files that you need.
If you are able to see the file in the Open dialog but can't open it, the file could be corrupted. That would probably not be a fun problem to fix if the original source is unavailable.
The file could have also been renamed, changing the name but not the file type. It may be a Photoshop PSD(or a JPG or TIF or whatever) with a renamed extension of PSP. In that case, Paint Shop Pro would probably be attempting to open the wrong file type and unable to succeed.
Instead of the Open dialog, try the Import dialog. Import may just be used for acquiring pictures from devices like scanners and cameras, but it may also open the software up to a bunch of other file formats.
If you're using a Mac, this piece of software, GraphicConverter, seems like it would do the trick: http://www.lemkesoft.com/xd/public/content/index.html
I hope that puts you in the right direction.
