What is the best method to make a presentation?

There are various ways to make a presentation, whether it's using the projector, standing behind the podium or just giving out handouts and discussing the topic and so on. However, what is the best way to 'present'? I know about body language and all that, but our professor told us that it's the content that matters to her the most and not really how you present yourself. I don't how to present my topic, but i was thinking of making it on powerpoint slides and then speaking about each point. I'm not sure yet.
I have a problem remembering all the things i want to say, is it acceptable if i just read it off a paper or something? Please give me some tips!

I use 3 x 5 index cards to help remember what I need to say. Powerpoint is a great tool to use; just don't put to much info on a slide, it'll get boring if there's to many words on the slide. AND don't read everything word for word from the powerpoint!
