Are there any libraries or film archives that keep reels/original film prints?
I ask this because there are many films I'd like to see that have never even been put on VHS. This is usually due to them being either too unpopular to manufacture or being too old to gain any interest.
The only chance of me ever catching some of these are suggesting Turner Classic Movies play a few, which could very well go unacknowledged.
So...are there any film archive libraries anywhere in this country that would allow me to dust off and watch a reel? I doubt it, but it's worth me asking.
There are film reels for some movies stored in the Library of Congress, but I don't think they're gonna let you rummage through their collection.
Aside from that there are the studios that store their reels and private collectors and film conservation groups that store reels as well. I think that AFI might have a catalog of old film reels
