My computer shuts down randomly. What should I do?
When I watch a video on a website (e.g. YouTube) , after a while, my computer just shuts down, without any warning or anything.
In Event Viewer I've found an error that has the next properties:
Source: Service Control Manager
Event ID: 7024
Description: The Symantec Network Proxy service terminated with service-specific error 4294967295 (OxFFFFFFFF).
What do you think I should do, because I think that error is the problem? Thanks.
I'm using Windows XP Professional.
Symantec is a resource hog. When a program uses a lot of resources it will make your CPU work extra hard. When the CPU works extra hard it heats up. Over time dust can collect in your cooling system which prevents the CPU from being properly cooled. When a computer overheats it automatically shuts itself down as a safety mechanism.
I would bring your computer to a shop to have dust removed from the chassis and CPU/Heatsink/Fan if this has not been done recently. Additionally, any decent technician at a shop should be able to tell you if your CPU, motherboard or power supply might be burning out.
Your symptoms all add up to hardware problems, it seems.
