anyone know what a scientific atlanta SATMM4-23 C 541756K device is?
anyone know what a scientific atlanta SATMM4-23 C 541756K device is? it has 4 coax cable conections marked 1,2,3,4 on front and on back looks like it holds 3 cables and allows 3 items to go inside box. back is marked twice with tp and coax. scientific atlanta site was no help - search didnt come up with anything useful or with anything with satmm4-23 in it.
i found it discarded near a cable tv/etc box. looks like it had to deal with cable conections but in what fashion (i.e., 2 in 2 out??) and what are the cable holding items on back since they arent 4? the 75ohm coax conections are teired i.e, 1&2 3&4. just curious. 1 & 3 had remnants of cable conections on them.
when i say discarded i mean it had been there some time. whole unit was slightly buried, screws are rusted, and grass clippings plus spider webs were inside. no weatherproofing was in it either.
What you are looking at is a cable tap. They are used to split the main line to multiple residences. Cable is a broadcast transmission so there is not a 1 to 1 type setup. Each male connector marked 1 through 4 would connect to a main line. This unit would allow for a provider to install their service and service up to 4 customers as well as be able to cut off their service if need be without gaining access to the residence.
