Why are the colors on your color TV/Monitor attracted to a Magnet dragged across the screen?
And does the Magnet take the color out of the TV/Monitor appliance?
I'm guessing it's a CRT (cathode ray tube) monitor. These work by shooting electrons at specific locations on the screen (happens extremely quickly, and it's why you can sense the electricity when you put your hand near the screen). The screen itself is composed of a grid of dots that light up either red, green, or blue when an electron strikes them. All of these dots togeher make up your TV/computer picture.
Magnetic fields apply a force to moving charged particles (like the electrons in the monitor). They deflect the electrons from the pinpoint accuracy they need to hit the right spot on the television screen and cause other colors to show up instead. If the magnet is strong enough it can repel the electrons completely away from a spot on the screen causing a "dead spot". No lasting damage to the monitor if you degauss it.
