How to make a video camera move/pan in exactly the same way two times?
I want to know how to do this so I can create a scene in which two of the same actors are on screen at the same time. You may have seen this effect in Back to the Future 2, but I do not have the funds to buy a computer controlled camera, which was used in that movie.
What I thought would work was a camera moving device (such as a dolly), but with a motor, so the shot is able to be recreated in exactly the same way as the first time, but I would like to know if anyone has any idea about doing something like this, and if it will work, or if they know of something else that would work. Although my budget is limited, I appreciate even expensive methods, they will at least increase my knowledge of how to achieve this effect. Thank you.
A dolly shot is definitely your answer, preferably if you can get it on a track. And at least if you can't get the computer control you would need to make sure you match it, you can at least have the camera moving in the exact same path, and make sure you have the camera zoom and focus set exactly the same. Do several takes, and you will get close enough to use it in editing...
