How can I make tights used for fairy wings more durable?
I play a Renaissance Fairy and I have decided to use little kid tights as covers for my wings. I have painted them with acrylic paint. I need something that will make them less like to tear if I were to run into something or if a child was to grab them.
I was wondering if the puzzle glue or some sort of spray on sealer would work.
If you have ideas or somethign that you have tried, please let me know!
I've made wings out of wire hangers and tights in the past, but just recently I made a Tinkerbell costume from a simplicity pattern and followed their directions. I cut four copies of a single wing shape out of both crinoline and the fabric I chose for wings. I basted one fabric wing to each crinoline wing, and then sewed them fabric sides together, reversed and pressed. The crinoline makes the wings stiff and you can choose whatever fabric you want for wings. I also added pipe cleaners with a zigzag stitch and clear plastic thread for the wing detail before sewing the two wings together in the center.
