which pc for movie editing?
i am a simple student and i want to build my first ever pc system for personal use like video editing (HEAVY) word typing, internet, email, uploads digital cam videos, store loads and loads of pictures from photo album (really HUGE).
i have come up with the following spec:
MSI 975X Platinum
INTEL CORE 2 DUO E6600 2.4GHz
1 GB RAM
SAMSUNG HD SERIAL 500GB
LITEON DVD±RW
Windows XP Home Service Pack 2
Thermaltake Tsunami case
HIPER 350 WATT 18db Silent PSU ATX

what are your views on this spec?
will the motherboard, processor, RAM and graphics card work well together?
shall i use win xp home or win xp pro? why?

Well so far you have some awesome components. What kind of ram are you using? I wouldn't trust one liteon drive. That crap is going to fail on you and you are going to be pissed. Trust me on this one. I have owned a few of them. I know it is well priced for the technology but pay a little more and get alot more. I would also suggest having two disk drives one with a really fast read only capability.
That 975X is a sweet setup. The nice thing about it is you can run two graphics cards at one time. However, If you plan on running a high end Intel Core 2 Duo system, like you are, you should upgrade your power supply to something that's ATX2.0 compatible and has an ESP12V connector. The MSI 975X Platinum will run on older power supplies but older units are not designed to handle the power requirements of modern machines. A compatible power supply is definitely required if you plan on running a dual videocard setup.
I wouldn't go with a single 500GB drive if you want to dedicate yourself to video editing. I like the fact that the drive is a serial drive. However, you should use two seperate drives. One for video editing, music, and pictures. Use another harddrive for window, your personal files, applications, etc. Just buy another Samsung 500GB HD. You could even put your drives in a raid setup so your system would always be backed up.
Looks like you are going to need a graphics card. Well remember that you want to do amazing video editing. So, you should buy an amazing graphics card. I think that if you should windows xp pro. It is more stable than the home edition and more secure. However if you don't want to pay the price difference, you could just stick with home edition.
