These are modifiers, none of which I think were used on that photo. You may want to start off with a kit like this http://www.calumetphoto.com/item/CF0502K1/ You can add other modifiers later on. I would choose a soft box as an additional modifier. Strobes are the best kind of lights to use. They don't get as hot as continuous lights. They also have a higher light output.
