Are all SoftBoxes created equally? Is there a brand that stands out?

I'm new to photography.
Okie dokie....
1. A speedring allows you to mount the softbox to the front of the strobe. Most strobes have a proprietary mount, so you need the speedring that goes to your strobe.
2. I don't understand the question really. A softbox is an accessory for the light. Same way they sell stereo systems without the car?
3. Light first. Then softbox. You're putting the cart before the horse on that one.
And the original question, no. They are not. I have not experienced it, as I went with Westcotts first, but I have heard that the cheaper softboxes (some, not all) can cause a color cast. In a one light setup thats fine, as you can adjust for that with white balance. If you're using more than one light source it can get real ugly real fast if they aren't balanced equally. I have also heard of some of the cheaper ones yellowing over time. Again, not experience talking, just what I heard from others.
Tools for photography tend to be like hand tools and power tools. Most of the time you get what you pay for, and sometimes you get lucky. Go to adorama.com and search for softboxes. The price range is insane. I would suggest expecting to spend $100-$200 on a softbox depending on size.
