Band Photography Beginner Help!?
I'm a amateur photograher, I wouldnt even call myself a photographer really, I believe you have to earn it...
I was thinking about doing a photo shoot for my mates band who arent big , they are just starting off.
I was hoping to do a good photoshoot for them to at least make them look good!
I know you need equipment like a softbox and lighting but unfortunately I'm not well funded 
but i have got photoshop CS3 which i hope will make up for it.
They are a band with genre's like:
Grime
Death metal
Post hardcore
I was wondering if anyone had any good idea's of where to photoshoot or what settings to use!?
Any help would be appreciated
Thank you for your answers, to answer the first question i was thinking of doing a photoshoot for promotion purposes, i have my sony a230 slr , but i have no lighting equipment, only photoshop to edit my final images.

Find a grungy looking site - abandoned buildings, old train tracks, graffiti walls. Unfortunately having Photoshop does not make up for having no lighting equipment.
This sort of band promo shot - lighting is key.
If you are going to be doing this regularly, you could invest in some gear which would be portable for location shooting. It needn't be expensive, for example;
off camera flash. manually controllable - £41
light stand - £12
softbox - £43
radio trigger to fire flash - £27
hotshoe adapter ('cos Sony is the only brand that doesn't use a universal hotshoe size - d'oh!) - £8
reflector £8
that is all you need.
I'd recommend shooting just before dusk, meter on the sky & maybe underexpose by a stop or 2, then use flash to balance with the ambient. If you don't invest in any gear then you'll have to use on camera flash - you're very limited though in range, direction & ability to add modifiers.
