How can I make a homeade softbox?
I am a young photographer and I dont want to spend the money on a softbox and light right now. Iwas wondering if anyone could give me any ideas on how to make a softbox to use with an existing non photographic light. Improvisation. Thank you.
I'm also a young photographer and I couldn't possibly buy a $200 (minimum) soft box either.
So instead, my mom made me a reflector out of a cheap umbrella. She used some really shiny fabric from walmart and covered the inside of the umbrella with the fabric using pins. Then, she bought some carpenter lights. It's works pretty good for a quick fix. You could search around for used soft boxes. If you live in or near a big city- im sure you could find somewhere that sells them used. or just go out and buy a diffusor. they arent all that expensive. as for soft boxes- my mom said that she made a homemade one in college and that it didn't work half as good as the store bought one the college had.
If you could possibly use the brightest lamp in your house and use that to reflect light from the umbrella, that may just work. The brighter the lamp, the better. You'll have to have the diffuser/reflector relatively close to the subject for a lamp to be the slightest bit effective.
you could EVEN use a carboard presentation board- the ones with 3 sides.
My best advice is to use the sunshine. even though its rarely out this time of year.
