Slave Trigger Set
Is there a wireless trigger that lets me use AUTO with strobes?

I know my D60 & D80 have a preflash that would set off any slave. Is there a device that would let my nikons take a test shot and meter from that? I'm thinking pocket wizards or something similar
I don't mind using manual, but for ease of use I would like the option to quickly swith to aperture or shutter priority.

The Nikon flash system is one of the best. You can use any Nikon dedicated flash off camera as a slave ( or several of them if you want). This will maintain TTL metering. The flash on your camera will just be the master controlling the other flashgun(s) or it can add some of its own light into the shot.

The problem with a 'pro' flash setup such as Bowens or similar is the guns aren't dedicated to any camera, you're basically in Manual Mode, theres no 'feedback' to the camera to regulate the flash.

I now use 4 Metz AF 58-1 flashguns in my setup and I prefer it to my Bowens. With the Nikon flashguns, good as they are, they have the fault that the sensor for reading the preflash is on the front so if you fit a softbox it obscures it, the sensor on the Metz is on the front, but also has two more on either side.

As I said at the beginning the Nikon system is one of the best there is you can set the power of up to 4 flashguns independantly and other stuff, this information is sent to the flashguns in the preflash, the next flash triggers the flashguns, you can use an array of flashguns to record action using rear curtain flash, its an elegant solution.

All of this preflash stuff happens in the 50ms or so whilst the camera is moving the mirror out of the way, clever stuff.

I don't think the D60 has any of this system (the D40 certainly doesn't) the D80 does.
