Best Lens(es) for Convention and Event Photography?
So I was looking to upgrade my lens for my Canon XSi. I'm Currently using the kit lens and its just not cutting it. I had heard good things about the 24-70L, but was also considering a selection of primes, 28mm f/1.8, the 50mm f/1.4 and the 85mm f/1.8, mostly for their larger apertures.
I will mostly be shooting indoors, in large convention spaces, usually poorly lit. I will need to shoot everything from close ups of table arrangements to large wall decorations
Does anyone have any experience as to which lenses will be more useful?
It depends on how much you want to spend.
If you're willing to spend a lot of money, then get a wide angle, wide aperture lens such as the 14mm f/2.8L and the 70-200mm f/2.8. Ive heard pretty good things about the 14mm, but the 70-200 is probably the best lens in the universe for the price 
its such an awesome lens for gyms and convention centers. Also, if you're shooting indoors, i would also recommend upgrading to a camera with better noise results such as the 40 or 50D. Maybe instead of that wide angle, purchasing a better body.
If you do NOT have too much money to spend, then the 50mm or 85mm are fantastic lenses! I would recommend getting the 85mm and the 50mm f/1.8 first to see if it works for you, then purchase the 50mm f/1.4 later. Its the dream team that many many photographers use
