What is the best/cheap way 2 set off a Vivitar 152 flash as a strobe without cords? What Choices & how?
Trying to set up a home studio as cheap as possible then as the money slowly comes in get better equipment. I've been using Briteck hot lights (that melt my clients) I have an old Sony Cyber-shot with pop up flash & shoe that isn't hot (just holds/no power). I bought an old Vivitar 152 flash in hopes of using it as a strobe. What is the cheapest/best way to set it off? What are my options? Transmitter, popcorn slave??? I used to work in preset studios & now really regret not paying closer attention. Not that I have the money to set it up right. Anyhoo any info is greatly appreciated. Thank you
Actually the hot shoe on the Sony does work, just not with anything but Minolta and Sony flash units ... it is a proprietary hot shoe. The Vivitar is not Sony compatible and you will further have to check to see if it can be used as a slave flash before you start spending money on a pair of Pocket Wizards or other alternative master/slave combination.
Are you charging enough to budget for a DSLR in the near future? If so, continue using your incandescent lamps until you do and then once you have a DSLR, you will have a whole lot of studio flash options.
The manual does not show this flash is slave capable.
