What photography equipment do I need for some product photos?
I'm new to digital photography, and especially new to dealing with lighting. I'm looking to buy a light kit and I have no clue what brands or set-ups I should be looking for. I do have to keep a budget in mind, but it's a little flexible. I have the camera and the editing software taken care of, but I need some direction for the other stuff....
I'm actually shooting larger products....
The reason why the field camera was recommended was for it's tilt and shift capabilities, or it's ability to focus on a subject while keeping the film plane perpendicular to the product. Thanks to modern lens design, you can find a tilt shift lens by most of the major manufacturers, but they are expensive for an amateur or casual user.
Bare minimum, i'd say a white seemless background , two equally powered lights set 45° to your subject, and a camera with decent resolution on a tripod squared to your subject.
To build on that, I'd also incorporate a light tent to provide more even illumination if you had small products.
Building even further, I'd add a DSLR with a tilt shift lens or a macro lens for those tiny pieces like watches or jewelry.
The combinations are endless and dependent upon the size and nature of the product.
