When should I make my senior photo appointment? When should i take my pictures?
There are lots of things to consider.
The best photographers will book up early, so make the appointment early. Get recommendations from friends who were seniors last year and who were more than pleased with their photographer. And pick a photographer who's photos you like.
Do you want the photos to be taken outdoors? If so you need to schedule them for a time of year when you can expect some clouds but not lots of rain. Completely clear skies with strong sunlight and very cloudy with rain are both poor conditions for portraits.
It pays to have them taken a little early in the year so you can do reshoots if you aren't happy with the results. Also, if you wait till the last minute the photographer will likely be too busy to concentrate on you as much as he/she should.
I know all of us photographers give each client our undivided attention. 
But if I have 3 shoots in one day I'm really not going to be quite as relaxed as if I have only one shoot the entire weekend.
