1947 Was a Turning Point
Roswell was a really big deal. Not so much at the time but certainly now. Before the events in July of 1947 this was a significantly different country with a significantly different mind set. The controversy today seems to be whether or not a weather balloon, modified for high altitude audio reconnaissance, was mistaken for a crashed flying saucer.
You would think that now, 60 years later, there is no way we can solve the mystery. I think we can. I believe that there was, indeed, a UFO crash and I think the actions of the individuals involved will bear this out. Looking at the details which are not in contention we can reconstruct what must have happened.
This occurred to me the other day while listening to a radio show discussing the propriety of Major Jesse Marcel stopping by his house to show his family the crash debris before going to the base. It was postulated that this was a major breach of security. Therein lies the truth, part of a larger, quite calamitous truth.
First of all, he was not violating any standing order. There was no standing order. Marcel was the head of intelligence for the Roswell Army Airfield, the first and only (at the time) nuclear strike base in the entire world. I hardly think it is reasonable at this late date to question his qualifications for the position.
Qualifications aside, he would certainly have been intimately involved with the formulation of base security policy. If he had chosen to ignore security regulations, which I am firmly convinced he would not have done, we would not know today that he had stopped by home. He would have said nothing about it to anyone. We know that later he instructed his wife and son to not talk about it. They didn't, so it is safe to assume they wouldn't have. The fact that this was later is significant.
The security of an Army Air base in those days was primarily concerned with prevention of spying and intrusion of individuals or forces into the base proper. The recovery of a "flying disk" was not seen as a security matter. There had been much talk in the media of sightings of such things and there would have been discussions among high level officers, certainly those that would be sharing the skies with such craft. It was a great discovery. Something everyone in the country was curious about. He now had in his possession proof positive that we were not alone.
It was late when Marcel was returning to the base. He knew that nothing could be done until later in the morning so it was not imperative that he rush back. In high spirits at the implications of this discovery for his family and, indeed, for all mankind he chose to share with his family. Only the first of those he assumed would share in the information.
Major Marcel was an experienced Army Air Corps officer. This was not his first assignment. High altitude balloons were a staple of Air Corps operations with regular launches to monitor weather conditions to be ready to respond to a threat at a moments notice. Had there been any indication that what was found on the Brazel ranch had any connection with a weather balloon he would not have awakened his wife and son to show it to them. He was absolutely convinced, as he said later, that this material had highly unusual physical properties "beyond human technology" and was "not of this Earth," definitely not balloon material of any kind.
People who claim that it was a weather balloon are ignoring the fact that in a weather balloon of the type that must have been used in a "Project Mogul" device, the actual radar reflectors and radio communications or telemetry equipment is actually rather small. The pieces that make up the whole are not tied together with dental floss. They are made to survive high winds, extremes of temperature and humidity and rough landings simply because what goes up must eventually come down; somewhere.
The balloon itself is huge and would cover quite an expanse of ground. No mention was ever made of the balloon material. The reports say that the next day a large contingent of men were taken to the site and recovered every piece, sometimes crawling shoulder to shoulder. Would this have been necessary if it were indeed a balloon?
Remember, Marcel brought debris back with him to the base. He shared this material and what he had seen at the ranch with his peers and superiors. They, too, thought that this was public information and not a matter of security. The base commander, Col. William Blanchard, issued a press release stating that they were in possession of a "flying disc."
Blanchard was certainly familiar with material used in high altitude balloons. If not in the individual parts used in a particular balloon, at least material available here on Earth. These men, all of them, were not fools. They all believed that this material was extraordinary. We've all heard of the properties that it displayed. The fact that it could not be torn, cut or burned leaves open the question of it being something secret which was beyond their experience. If that were the case, where is it now 60 years later. Why do we not have military uniforms or equipment made of it. It would certainly be an advantage for our troops.
Recently on a show aired on the History channel a fellow identified as having worked on the Project Mogul Balloons stated that they used a tape from a local dime store to hold the material together and that it had decorative printing on the edge. This is offered as evidence that the people who handled the wreckage were mistaken when they said it had some sort of strange hieroglyphics imprinted on it.
Now, maybe it's just me, but I've seen such tape and I think it is remarkable that one of these highly positioned Army Air Corps officers didn't say, "You know, that looks kinda like a bluebird and that looks like a shamrock and over here is like a half moon!" The assumption must be that these guys, charged with the oversight of all the nuclear weapons on Earth at the time were little more than drooling idiots.
Section 605 of the Communications Act of 1934 was a privacy provision. Anyone who heard anything on the radio that was not a public broadcast or an emergency communication could not divulge what they heard to another or use the information to their own advantage. Under penalty of law. In other words, the public was charged with security of communications. Each and every person with a shortwave radio (which at the time was almost the entire population) was trusted to do what was right, on their honor.
In 1947 Americans were recovering from an extraordinary effort in defeating the enemies of freedom and were, in the minds of most people in power at the time, to be trusted to do the right thing and entitled to the information on which to base a sound decision. This was a Republic, the tiller of the ship of state was in our hands.
Brig. Gen. Roger Ramey changed all of that. He ordered a coverup. He took it upon himself to change the way government dealt with American citizens. We were to be excluded from information in the hands of the elite. Despite possibly good intentions, this act changed the rules. The citizens were not to be trusted with information and therefore could not make informed decisions. We were excluded from the process altogether. Decisions would be made for us by those in possession of all the facts. Them.
By the 1960's the door to the inner sanctum was not just closed to those on the street but to their duly elected representatives as well. Senator Barry Goldwater asked his friend General Curtis LeMay to see the material stored at Wright-Patterson Air Force base in Dayton, Ohio. The quote is famous in UFO circles. LeMay said - Not only NO but HELL NO and don't ever ask me again. Goldwater is later noted as saying he didn't know who was in charge of such material or who put them in charge.
By the 1990's not only could we not disclose what we heard on the radio, it was illegal to possess a radio capable of receiving certain frequencies. This was done at a time when a simple $1 chip in cell phones could scramble communications beyond the ability of receiving individuals to decode. Our government, now like Barry Goldwater, unable to understand who was in charge or who put them there blindly did as the corporate interests demanded.. Save them a few pennies and take freedom away from the people.
It wasn't long until police departments and Federal agencies were clamoring to get to these protected frequencies apparently to prevent their off the cuff remarks about ethnicity or race or gender being heard by a public that just couldn't understand the stress they were under all the time. After all, everyone was an enemy of the state. It was "them" against "us". The constant need for "security measures" has been impressed on us to the point we can no longer remember a simpler, freer time.
Now, we have armed troops on the streets of some big cities, the police in local communities acting like an occupying army. Police are instructed to use Tazers only on American Citizens and not on illegal aliens. Our national sovereignty is being given away by a few mindless political puppets acting on behalf of international bankers who think that making Canada, Mexico and U.S. into one country with one currency and one economy and no borders will so destroy the last vestiges of national identity of all three countries that we will become one great market. A colonial market. Sending all of our output of minerals, agriculture and petroleum to foreign ports to be processed and returned to us at a handsome profit.
All of this is happening today. We don't know about it because they now have a strangle hold on the media which is instructed to entertain rather than instruct. There are web sites proclaiming glories to come of all this but no one knows they're there. Wouldn't understand them if you pointed them out.
This came about because of people like Roger Ramey. They put their foot in the door despite the best intentions of real patriots like Jesse Marcel and William Blanchard and all the men at Roswell Army Air Base in 1947 who believed in the American people. If the government, then elected, was not in charge, who did Ramey and his minions work for? To whom did they owe their allegiance if not the American people? Who is in charge now when all elected government officials have no knowledge of a UFO in Roswell?
