How should I setup 2 flashes for a wedding shoot?
I have two flashes and one will be on the camera. How should I setup my off camera flash?
I do not have a light stand and I will be buying wireless radio triggers.
I was thinking about putting my off camera flash somewhere pointed straight up to the ceiling to illuminate the room and just adjust my on camera flash as needed.
I know there are different setups for different situations, so can you guys describe some situations and the setup you guys would recommend?
The most popular setup is to use your off camera flash as the "key" or main light which is usually mounted above and to the side of your subject (I usually have mine on the subject's right side as I usually have my subject facing very slightly to their left). For your fill light, have that off camera too but near your camera and to the other side a little further away from your subject than your main light. This applies if both your flash units are putting out the same amount of light. Adjust your main light to cast a shadow that touches the corner of the mouth. Then adjust your fill to lighten the shadow somewhat. Experiment and you will find the right combination. This type of lighting is called "Rembrandt" lighting.
