What should I have in my downstairs photo studio?
Okay, so I'm into photography. I'm not old enough to start a company or anything yet, but I'm going to make a little studio downstairs in my basement, just a basic one. I've thought of some things I would need, here they are:
*A camera, no doubt.
*Some stools or chairs for people to pose on
*A white sheet for the back
*Lights (I have a basic ceiling one, I'm not sure if it can move, any other ones that would be good? Preferably cheap ones)
Any other things??
Just beginner things, nothing to fancy or expensive.

First thing I'd get is a black muslin, something 10x20, big enough where you won't have to replace it, maybe ever. The thing about white is you really have to light it strongly to get the shadows off it or to make it actually appear white. Black you don't have to light at all. You may need a light to separate subject and backdrop, but not always. The muslins are not terribly expensive either. I just got one on Ebay for $32, free shipping. I think that is very reasonable. If you can save up a little money, even $100, you can get a small 3 light constant light kit. It will get you started. If you can get strobes instead of constant lighting, even better. Constant lighting can work, I used to shoot with constant lighting. I don't like editing that much and it always looks very amateur. Even the bulb type strobes are better. They're not super powerful, but more consistent and the results are better for my money. They sell kits on Ebay all the time with a backdrop holder, a black and white backdrop and a couple lights and they go for less than $100 sometimes. You just gotta have the money and the patience and you can come by some stuff on the cheap. The key is being opportunistic. Craigslist can also be your friend. Good Luck.
