Photography | 10 Ways To Improve Your Child Photographs
Parents love photographing their child because it’s one way to capture the moment of their child while they are still young. It’s one way to remember those gone days on how their child walk in the bus in their first day of school, first recitation, kindergarten graduation, first soccer team and a lot more. And these photographs can make them feel light and divert stress.
It can be more fun if your photographs will be more than just ‘Okay’ photographs. But this activity is not an easy thing to do because most children move fast, impatient and may not listen to your posing instructions. Well to come up with great photographs, here are some tips I want to share that can improve your ‘Okay’ photographs to ‘Excellent’ photographs.
- Focus. Focus on your child’s eyes. Their eyes are the door to their soul and connect the viewer of the picture. Half-press the shutter to lock the focus and press the shutter slowly to prevent shaking the camera. But this takes practice and practice makes it perfect.
- Get in close. The telephoto or zoom in lens is the obvious way to do to get close to your child. You can also move your feet. This can eliminate other distractions and background derangement.
- Natural light. Always see the best light for your photograph. Soft shadows are always desirable. Avoid the harsh sun light if you are going to take photograph outdoors.
- Turn Off your camera flash. Flash can be great for snapshots but so good for portraits. This can cause the red-eyed photograph of your child. But this can’t be a big problem since there is photo-editing software available.
- Take extra attention at your background. Sometimes background can ruin the pictures so take extra attention with it.
- Be invisible sometimes. A best picture comes from stolen shots or when your child is unaware that you are taking pictures. This can be done by using your zoom lens or just being quiet so they forgot that you are taking pictures. Provide tricks so they won’t notice or feel what you are doing.
- Capture different expressions. Try to capture the tears, when they are serious, happy and other expressions. Make it more fun by giving them something like books or toys or you can even tell a story.
- Dressing up. For more fun, you can use props for the session like their favorite hats, flowers, their toys and a lot more.
- Follow your child. Your child moves fast so always ready your camera to capture their movements.
- Keep pressing the camera shutter button. Keep taking photographs. It doesn’t really matter how many photographs you make because digital camera can make a lot. Practice to make it perfect. Choose the best photograph of your child and print it.
