What are these lighting things?
Can somebody tell me what these are:
1) Beauty Dish
2) Universal Honey Comb Grid
3) Grid Diffuser
4) Key light Reflector (hard reflector?)
5) Snoot
6) Barn Doors (I kinda know what they are lol)
I found stuff on Google about a Snoot, is ALL it does generate a straight beam of light?
And barn doors, I know you can customise how light travels with them, but is there more?
I'm confused about these items and was told about them for a studio I'm supposed to be getting, soo information would good good,

(I'm still going to be looking online for answers too, but any information from here is still great!)
Basically they are all light modifiers (or light shaping tools). They either make the light more spread out or more concentrated. Remember, in lighting the smaller the light source in relation to the subject the harsher the shadows. So things like umbrellas, softboxes, beauty dishes effectively make the light source bigger & create soft or no shadows. Snoots and grids concentrate the light so are useful for when hard shadows are required or you want to contain the spill of light to a small area.
1) Large, ring type of reflector around the light source - gives a soft, but flat quality of frontal light
2) Honeycomb grids fit on flashes or snoots to further concentrate the light into a tight spot
3) Grid diffusers diffuse the light from a grid
4) Reflectors bounce light back from the key light to act as a fill light
5) Snoots concentrate the light into a tighter spot to produce a smaller light source for harsher, more edgier lighting or for rim lighting
6) Barn doors act as flags of gobos to stop the light travelling in one or more directions (often to stop flare if the light might be spreading back towards the camera)

Just select a type of light modifier in the drop down box & you can see a model lit with that type of light. Should be self explanatory (Soloflex is their softbox trade name). You can always check their products page to see exactly what type of modifier it is.
