How should I handle this double birthday party?
My child was invited to a birthday party for siblings a couple years apart in age. The invitation has both children's names. My child barely knows one of them. Do you still buy a gift for both or only the one who is the same age as my child?
I think it's cruddy that the parent is doing a joint birthday party and has invited you to "both". The parent is spending half the money (one party instead of two) and suggesting that you spend twice the money for two gifts rather than one. That's crass and I'm ashamed for that parent.
If I were in the situation, I'd do one of two things. First, skip the party and have your kid give the friend a gift next time he/she sees them (school or playtime or whatever). OR, go to the party with a gift for your kid's friend and a card for the friend's sibling. If you feel you need to have a gift for the other kid, don't spend more than a dollar or two... a jump-rope or matchbox car or something along those lines.
Or you could REALLY make a point and put both kids' names on one present.
