Styles of Wedding Backdrops for Theatre and Dance Productions
In a production where you have a wedding scene, it can benefit the production greatly to use a backdrop rather than a blank white or black sheet. They help to involve the audience more with the production, as they can feel like they are really getting into it. It will also benefit the actors, because it makes the acting more realistic, and they can feel like they are really getting into their acting.
There are many different ways you can simulate a wedding backdrop in the theater. The most common and widespread feature is a sliver or white background. This can range from near enough anything, like a glitter and sparkly silver backdrop, to a white, smart and posh backdrop.
Flowers are commonly used on the backdrop sheet. Different types of flowers you can use include daffodils, roses, primroses and violets. Make sure you use them carefully though, as you don’t want to overdo the overall feeling with too many flowers.
In the foreground, there are many items you can use. One of the most commonly used are chairs. The chairs are decorated with gold leaf and silver. They are usually very big, as to draw attention to the middle of the stage where the actors will be performing. The chairs can either be normal standard chair shape, or you can use the roman like ones, in where to top of the chair has the rolled up fabric design. This chair provides a rustic and unique setting, as well as drawing the audience’s attention to an unusual piece of equipment. Hanging drapes are a big part of the final decoration. Whether it is one or two across the ceiling, or many various ones crossing the backdrop, they can help create a rich feel to the backdrop. You need to use color matching well. For instance, if you have a white backdrop, white drapes are not going to be a good option. An example of good color selection is red drapes on a white backdrop.
Another key feature is the carpet. You have various choices here, and they vary greatly. The red carpet is perhaps the most common. Setting a rich tone, and complementing any chairs you have, this provides a great look to the overall sight. You can also use a patterned carpet, with many different options, including a sort of Aztec design, or all the way forward to a futuristic wacky design.
As you can see there are many different types of wedding backdrops, and you need to think carefully about each and every aspect of them. Whether it be the carpet, the decoration, the flowers of the actually sheet itself you need to think about colors, and what type of colors will go well with it, and being out its design as much as possible. Also try to think about how big your stage will be, as this can become a problem if you have not accounted for enough room etc.
