Solid Combination: Universal Water Filter Cartridge
Universal water filter cartridges are a nice combination of reverse osmosis water filtration systems and absorbent water filtration systems because they use both a membrane and a carbon water filter cartridge within the same device. This is ingenious since reverse osmosis water filtration systems normally require a pre-filtration process that takes out the chlorine from the water which is harmful to the delicate membrane within the water filtration system.
This membrane has microscopic holes in it that only allow water molecules to pass through it, which is ideal for filtering out materials from the water, thus purifying it. However, this process is hindered by chlorine which eats away at the membrane and causes it to decompose and not work the way it was designed to work.
The Benefits
Universal water filter cartridges help to remove chlorine from the water through the granulated activated carbon in the filter. It also removes heavy metals from the water such as lead which can have terrible health effects. In addition, it removes heavy iron, aluminum and other chemicals from the water.
The cartridge usually lasts for up to twelve thousand gallons of water, which is a lot of water for a normal household. It allows the water to be cleansed right at the tap, depending on the type of system bought by the user. There are also additions to the base Universal water filter cartridges that can help to reduce Giardia and other bacteria that can sometimes get into the water supply.
There are other types of water filtration units made by other companies. The important things to look for in water filtration replacement cartridges is what elements they are guaranteed to cleanse from the water. In addition, there are some who make great promises but are not certified through a water purification agency who monitors these companies.
One other thing that consumers should be aware of is how often a water filter cartridge must be replaced. Universal water filter cartridges are fairly long lasting, while others on the market may have to be replaced in under three months, depending on how much they are used.
It is important to follow the replacement guidelines on the filters because failure to do so can cause the units to actually put contaminates back into the water since they are clogged up from the purification process. Clogged units also slow the water flow which can cause frustration to consumers at home and in the office.
